Kellie's Castle, Batu Gajah Perak

Kellie's Castle was meant to be a home away from home for Scottish Planter, William Kellie Smith which is perched on top of a hill in what used to be a rubber estate. Smith brought in 70 craftsmen from Madras India to build the castle with Scottish, Moorish and Indian influence. The bricks and marble were imported from India, too. Included in the plan for the 6 storey tower was Malaya's first elevator, an indoor tennis court and a rooftop courtyard for entertaining. It is located near Batu Gajah, and is about 20 minutes' drive from Ipoh, Perak.

Construction of this unique castle began in 1915. However, it came to an abrupt halt with Kellie's sudden death in 1926. The solitary castle, looks almost surreal in these wild plantations of Perak, it projects a strong personality and an aura of mystery.

Efforts have been made by the Perak State Government to rescue this magnificent structure from the encroaching foliage. Besides being haunted, the castle is believed to have hidden rooms and secret underground tunnels. The road that leads to Kellie's Castle follows the contours of the land in a dizzying, maze-like fashion, adding to the mystery and romance of the place.

With a beautiful majestic exterior, newly landscaped garden/ greenery, interesting interior full of secret doors and rich history, it is a great location for wedding photography. The whole place is like a maze. The bricks walls give it a rustic and mysterious feel. With the right angle, the photographer can produce a stunning image of the historic architecture.

At the ticket counter - entrance fee is RM10.00 that was fine with me but upon seeing me holding a DSLR camera, I was told I needed to pay RM50.00 for the camera.
The castle itself is well kept and the signs are informative. documenting the history as well as documenting various parts of the building. One of the rooms (living room) was also recreated with furniture to let visitors see what the "castle" could be like in its heydays.
The castle is very interesting as it seems to be full of secret doors. The whole place is like a maze. One could easily get lost on it. The most interesting place...to me...is the wine cellar.
Kellie's Castle combines Western and Oriental styles in eye-catching architecture at a quite special place.
The exteriors of the castle (even the ruined part) are majestic.
All the greenery surrounding the place along with the rivulet make it even more beautiful, and be sure to click a lot of pictures, the castle serves as a stunning backdrop!

I HAVE heard many haunted stories about Kellie's Castle in Batu Gajah, Perak.
Under the 10th Malaysian Plan, the Tourism Ministry allocated RM5 million for upgrading the place. Architects, historians and experts were consulted before the makeover. Early this month, I braved myself to visit Kellie's Castle to view its newly landscaped garden. Today, Kellie's Castle looks quite majestic and enchanting. New additions include stone-paved walkways, a mini theatre, souvenir shops, food stalls, public toilets and ample parking lots. The castle has awakened from its century-old slumber. Kellie’s Castle is a great location for photo shoots and wedding or modelling photography.

Empire Hotel is majestically located in the business district of Subang Jaya. This exclusive boutique hotel is set to impress you with its modern royal facilities. With the Empire Shopping Gallery situated just below the hotel, this Subang Jaya landmark is a strategic place to hold a wedding banquet. You will not miss this urban sculpture. It is easy to locate this venue besides having the convenience of access from the available parking bays.

We attended a friend's wedding lunch here.
1. The customer service is not up to the standard. The lack of smiles from the waiters and waiteresses.
2. Food presentation is not attractive in the sense, music do not match to the feel that being brought up.
3. Waiters are rushing from one dish to another, without proper ask if we have finished.
4. Do not attentive for refill the tea or drop of utensil.
5. Good that they are changing the eating plate for everyone in each dish. But we encounter that, when we half way eating, they can suddenly take the plate away, and change a new one.
6. They being serving a codial drink, but it do not distribute to anyone if you are not asking, but still, the waiters are carrying with them, walking around. They are not proactive.

Our wedding was held at Empire Hotel, Subang. The reason why we chose to have our wedding there was because the interior of the ballroom is super pretty! LED lights that you can choose your favorite color! Besides that, our wedding is considerably a small wedding, there were only 25 tables and it fits perfectly into the ballroom! Their food was ok, not like awesome but it’s considered ok compared to a lot of other hotels.

As far as ballroom theatrics go, Empire Hotel’s impressive wavy LED lights make you feel like you’re entering a futuristic portal. The lights change colours every other minute, or you can set the colour to match your wedding theme. Being a design boutique hotel, Empire’s Emperor Ballroom is less formal – we envision guests rocking up in their skinnies rather than Armanis. Perks: No extra charge for flower arrangements on the tables. Each wedding package comes with a one-night stay in the bridal suite.

I attended a wedding dinner at Empire Hotel about 2 weeks back. The hall looks contemporary but it can only fit 30 tables. The food is not that great.

we sign the contract on the day we make the deposit. For me, yes I would still consider them even change date because i simply like the venue and its a venue not alot of people have been before. I save money on decorating the halls as well and the package price is what i'm looking for. If you want to look for another venue then you have to be fast otherwise they will all be taken up as the date gets nearer

PaperThrill Wedding Invitations

With a great passion for papers, PaperThrill has been creating handmade cards with quality papers and material. As with all things handmade, no two cards are alike. And that's the beauty of handmade cards. They will work with you to ensure that your wishes and ideas are reflected on the cards.

Most complimentary invitations (from the banquet venue for instance) are old-fashioned and boring. PaperThrill offers modern, more attractive designs which can be customized to suit your wedding needs.

Wedding: Handmade Luxe

The elements in this card complements each other - the use of the satin ribbon exudes a luxurious feel, yet is balanced by the rustic feel of the skeletal leaf. The bride wanted a set of placecards to match her invitation cards as well. Invitation text is printed on a separate pearlescent inlay inside.

This wedding invitation card comes with a damask print on both the front and back of the card. A vellum band with black ribbon wraps the front flap. A luxurious diamante buckle adorns the front of the card, giving it an extra touch of glamour.

This coral pink and pearl themed invitations consist of a tri-fold pocket, with the main invitation printed on a separate card and layered in the middle section. The pocket holds two separate inserts, all double layered, thus double the thickness. The bride wanted an added elegance to her card, and so, instead of normal printing, she opt for thermographic printing. This type of printing is similar to heat embossing, giving the text a 'raised' effect. On the outside, a delicate white floral lace then wraps around the card, and a pearl bead string completes it.

Browsing for card printers wasn't easy. Most card printers I found online print traditional wedding invites. One fine day I found something online which I like. clicked on the picture to find these beautiful invites and would like to engage the same printer to do my invites. I was ecstatic! It was exactly what I was looking for ! From there I found that Paper Thrill had a few modern designs which can be customised slightly to suit different wedding themes. I was soooooooooooo happy to find them!

de CASAMIA Bridal Gallery SS2

MUA Kimmi has great skills in matching the right accessories for the selected gown. She provides good service as well as useful tips on skin care so your face is all prep up for the shooting day. The makeup outcome turned out really natural on photos but would look overdone in real life. The photographer is friendly and skillful in capturing the best of you for example making you look taller and prettier using various photography techniques. The overall result is satisfactory. If you don't fancy the cliche bridal shop slideshow of flowery and patterns appearing at the corners, you may not like their photo montage. De Casamia's sales coordinators work fast and are straight forward.

Jul 2013
I very personally recommend De Casamia.
Was supposed to look around at bridal shops for PS, even had a list of bridal shops I wanted to go to. The first place I went to was De Casamia, and immediately signed up there because it was good.

So far have chosen the gowns (No limit on where you can choose the gowns or no topping up for "special" gowns- you can take your pick from all the gowns they have except for the ones on sale), taken the photos and selected the photos, waiting to preview album design and then collect. Everything was done very quickly and without hassle and/or problems.

My sales coordinator was Christine, photographer was Alex and MUA is Kimmi.

Christine is very straight-forward, fast and honest. However, if you're the type of person who's more laid-back and relaxed you might feel pressured by her sometimes because she works very fast. So unless you're the kind of person who can make good snap decisions and know what you want, she's great. Very accommodating too, and not pushy at all. She has never once asked me to add and/or top-up anything at all, not even subtly- if I did (And I did), it was purely my (And husband's) decision.

Alex is actually a very good photographer and very detailed. Initially my husband and I wanted Jeff but he called in sick on the day of our PS so Alex replaced him, and we did not regret this one bit! He poses every part of your body, and even though it feels unnatural and stiff, the results are great! I've seen some photos where the posing is a bit limp (Especially hands and arms) but not for Alex, he tells you what to do with them as well (Not just head, body, eyes) so the result of the photo is very very good. Very satisfied.

Kimmi is a great and skilled MUA, good at matching accessories to the gowns you chose. Before anything she explains everything to you in detail (e.g. Use of ampoules, eyelashes) and wants you to be happy with the result- she will keep asking you if the look she's done is OK/acceptable for you and to tell her if it isn't. I have to say the makeup she done on me looks very good and natural in photos even though it really looks overdone in real life!

My photography package costs RM 3699. Package was customised to my husband and my wants and needs. My extras so far are upgrading my included enlargement photo to the metal print, adding one more enlargement photo (Also metal print) and buying all the photos.

I edited this video using iMovie. We decided to do it ourselves because the one that the bridal shop gave us is way too outdated. Imagine flowers blooming at the corner of your picture, music box melody (chinese song) and weird looking water effect and etc… Seriously, I cant stand it ==”

We did our pre wedding shoot with De Casamia in SS2. Got there early in the morning, 8am! The make up ended at around 9am!! I have to say their service is pretty good, the make up artist explained everything to me before she started to apply anything on my face. Then she gave me some tips of how to take care of my skin when im doing the outdoor shoot and also my hair from the hair spray. My makeup artist of the day- Kimi. I showed it to my dad and he agreed that I look like a ladyboy from Phuket. Our photographer was super sweet and friendly! I heard from someone saying that the photographers dont really show pictures from their camera viewer but my photographer happily showed our pictures to me! Even the make up artist was pretty surprised that he did! I had to say he was pretty good because he made me looked super tall and pretty! He hid all my fats and meat hahaha

Deco : Kisha Mega Event. Wedding Reception was filmed at  St John Ambulance Hall, Ipoh, Perak. We truly love  all the moments, the culture, the people, the Indian dances, the fabulous music and the overall colorful celebration. Ipoh is the capital of Perak state, Malaysia. This wonderful city is surrounded by beautiful limestone and caves in all kind of shapes… This is the specialty which gives life to the decor that we captured as the scene of the main entrance. This is our creative way to include the beauty of Ipoh cave, with awesome decoration. And all these made the reception more special and elegant.  It is just like having dinner banquet in a cave…
