Grand Imperial Chinese Restaurant at Hartamas Shopping Centre

My impression of Grand Imperial is that their restaurants are nicely decorated, somewhat dark-romantic ish with striking chandeliers and furnishing. There are pillars in the hall. The common problem is that the wedding guests may have to pass by walk-in diners area before reaching the reception. You have to share a space and the event becomes not as private. The good thing is the delicious Chinese (particularly Hong Kong Cantonese) cuisine created by their chefs. However the standard might suffer with huge number of people. In the Hartamas branch, the staff certainly handled the crowd well, and food was hot and arrived steadily and quickly.

I recently attended a wedding dinner here. The environment is not as nice as the one at Bangsar Shopping Mall. The kitchen is beside the stage / front area so it is a little messy and not so tidy. The food is good though.

Set wedding dinner. Overall, I enjoyed all of the dishes but they would have been better if they were not too salty. Grand Imperial Restaurant is good enough for a Chinese family feast and if you do not mind for the minor imperfections that I spotted for a wedding occasion – apart from the food criticism – it is quite a classy area to say that you have your dinner.

1. The layout – there were too many pillars in the way of the stage and the tables,
2. Screens – lack of screens around the room so when videos were shown viewing was a challenge, not to mention that there were pillars in the way,
3. Table cloth – For a Chinese wedding they should be red, the auspicious colour, not white.
4. Entrance – is quite complicated depending where you enter. Grand Imperial Restaurant is inside a shopping complex. A better map to the main door entrance perhaps should be provided by the restaurant.

I have had a fair few Chinese wedding dinners in the past few months, and Grand Imperial didn’t quite live up to some of the others. That said, I have been impressed by the food at Grand Imperial on previous, smaller occasions, so perhaps it suffered with the huge number of people. The staff certainly handled the crowd well, and food was hot and arrived steadily and quickly.

In Hartamas, guest will need to pass by the public area by the restaurant before reaching the reception tables. Dont really prefer that.
grand imperial food is good ! hartamas got nicer 'interior' but i heard the service has deteriorated quite badly there. One U is better now compared to Hartamas in terms of service and food.
