The Wedding Voice - William Lee Emcee

The most talked-about wedding emcee is of course Mr William Lee. Be it forums, feedback on wedding websites or blogs, there is so much mentioning of his name. So I guess naturally he is the person I am going to write about and introduce to you people. As usual I would do my rounds of surveying and examining his work. He speaks very professionally without the "uh" and "err" pauses in between. The words come out natural, they do not appear to be pretentious. Impressive delivery of message as well.

Due to his popularity he would have been booked up to 2 years in advance, so confirm him fast. He may not return your calls as he is extremely busy and he is expensive too. If you are looking for someone to coordinate the wedding day, William Lee is also capable of over-seeing the events for you. I have selected a couple of videos which showcase his talents in hosting wedding events in English and Mandarin.

The bride and groom cut the cake accompanied by William's words and soothing voice during the wedding:

Wedding cinematography which shows him conducting the vows and pledging ceremony in English. You have to fast forward to that part, which is a short section:

For his spoken English, here's a clip of William as an emcee for the ISQ 2011 Award Presentation. You can listen to the usage of words, pronunciation, clarity and intonation:

He shows his wittiness as the host in the AVEVA World Summit 2011 at Shangri-la Singapore (English):

It is wise to always refer to feedback of past customers. While we cannot trust every comment 100%, they serve as guidelines for couples to source for the perfect vendor close to their needs. In a nutshell, William Lee is great, everyone likes him, he coordinates the wedding event coherently, is entertaining and funny at the same time. There will be less excitement if all emcees use a similar set of script in every wedding. William stands out in the way that he surprises his clients, in a good way. He also provides suggestions to create a more memorable celebration for the groom and bride.

Price/Value: Slightly on the pricier side but you'll not regret getting him
William's charges vary according to the complexity of the program, but he generally charge RM2,600 for wedding reception planning, coordinating and bilingual emceeing (English, Mandarin or Cantonese). This package also include one assistant. His team, which acts as personal DJ and timekeeper throughout, will liaise with all parties involved in the event: banquet manager, performers, PA and lighting personnels, etc, to ensure smooth and successful event.
As for my wedding, we paid RM3,000 (after RM200 discount) for planning, coordinating and emceeing both solemnization ceremony and wedding reception.
Quality of Service: Excellent
If you're looking for an emcee for your event, I highly recommend William Lee. Look for no other. He's REALLY GOOD!! While some emcees simply introduce people and make announcements, this guy has a myriad entertaining styles of doing them. Composed and flexible, William definitely has excellent stage presence, exceptional audience rapport and communicates very effectively. Also, he is perfectly capable of setting the perfect tone for the event, managing time effectively, making everyone feel welcome and at ease...More importantly, he does not hog the limelight!!  All my guests, even my elderly Chinese speaking relatives, were singing praises of him!

With experience as RTM2 TV Program Host, Speaker, Emcee, Trainer, Translator and AiFM Radio DJ, William has sufficient exposure and knowledge to get the wedding event in control with his pleasing voice. He is also a Program Producer, Event Planner, Event Coordinator and Voice Artist.

Wedding Photography Inspiration from Mario Testino

Photography should be an art form limited only by your imagination. Be inspired by skilled innovations from famed photographers such as Mario Testino. He picked up a camera for the first time at 24 of age and shot to fame as one of the most celebrated photographers in the fashion industry. Testino has captured many of the world’s best known people, shot for magazine covers, such as Vogue and Vanity Fair and was noted for taking some iconic snaps of the late Princess Diana.

I've always loved this Burberry romantic fragrance ad shot back in Oct 2005. It was able to portray the elegance of life's simple joy. From getting angry with your bf for being late to a simple walk down a quiet street, you just have to be imaginative. Add a few details and voila! you have your pre-wedding collection.

Luxurious Wedding at The Westin Hotel Bukit Bintang, KL

In the hustle and bustle of Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur is the luxurious Westin Hotel. Famous for its prime location, that area can have a bit of traffic issues. Finding a car park was not a problem as the hotel has its own parking bays. Elevated up the hotel building, we arrived at the foyer where the reception was. Beyond it was the ballroom separated by a round balcony overlooking the hotel's ground floor. I was immediately mesmerized by the beautiful ballroom.. modern and cozy. To create that kind of coziness and romantic atmosphere, the lighting plays an important role.

We were seated together with hubby's ex-colleagues, there was the catching up session and then we asked for some wines. We saw the bride and groom made their grand entrance gracefully on the red carpet led by a saxophonist, with beautiful flower stands by the side. Subsequently the attendants served the first dishes to the dance pop "Gangnam" tune. The lights pointing to our table immediately illuminated, that means it's time to eat! Brilliant.

Reception dinner started with the combination platter in which a few unique food dishes were served on one single plate. The people were crazy about the soup (Classic Bird’s Nest Soup with Australian Abalone and Conpoy). I personally love the cod fish. The Shimeji mushroom in soy sauce was so yummy savored together with the fish. The tiger prawns with extraordinary sauce was a spicy sambal-taste dish, which was very appetizing. Overall, I enjoyed the food and I liked the food presentation a lot.

Westin banqueting provided excellent service. Our table was well taken care of, except for the fact that the girls had to ask the attendants to refill the glasses with more wine. I guess they were more focused on serving the food and neglected the drinks. If Westin is your venue of choice, feel free to discuss it with the PIC to make sure everything is tip top.

Jessy of the Muse Entertainment was the emcee and lead vocalist of the night. She has a soothing jazzy voice, sang mostly jazz numbers. She spoke English and Mandarin confidently. If you are planning a romantic and classy wedding reception, she and her band are a good option.

We had our wedding in Westin in June'16 and it was a beautiful setting. There was no pillar in the ballroom obstructing views and it could accommodate a good 30 tables and a dance floor. The bridal suite we got was also very spacious and we were very happy with the room and assistance provided for our wedding.
The hostess serving the main table was very attentive to our needs and even volunteered to send up the food that we didn't manage to eat to our hotel room so that we could have them for supper. However our guests had provided feedback after the dinner that they had difficulties getting services. Nevertheless hotel was accommodating to our decorating needs and was kind enough to let us bring in our own desserts for the cocktail session.

Westin seemed just right from the start. Nice banquet manager (a jolly-looking accomodating type called Chester, whom we privately call Chestnut), cosy ballroom (45 tables max, but 40 tables would be comfortable), and very flexible in altering the contract terms per our request, and throwing more freebies into the package. Westin also offers a variety of table linen designs, in sand and pearl colors.

Olivia Ong - A soulful singer from Singapore

A Singaporean girl who moved to Japan to further her studies and singing career at the age of 15, Olivia Ong has now released 13 albums. In 2011, she was awarded the Singapore Hit Awards -Best Local Artiste. In the midst of my wedding research, I came across a fair number of photo montage, slideshows, whatever you call it, which play her songs, then realized she is a popular choice. It triggered my curiosity to dig more information about this sultry-voiced young singer.

A List of Wedding Songs

I also discovered, she was the singing voice behind the theme song of Singaporean hit drama "The Little Nyonya" (2008) starring Jeanette Aw and Qi Yuwu, which I faithfully followed back then.

Olivia has then released a couple of English albums, containing some cover versions of older songs such as "Sometimes When We Touch" written by Dan Hill and Barry Mann, "L.O.V.E." sung by Nat King Cole, "Close To You" by The Carpenters, "Kiss Me" from Sixpence None The Richer and many more. She added her own flavor to the songs, pronouncing the words with a little twist and vocalizing them in strong emotions. The talented musician wrote her own songs as well. Care for an Olivia's tune to fancify your wedding?
