Oriental Pavilion (大港城酒家), Jaya 33 PJ - Good food

Updated: Jan 2015

The consistent food quality offered by Oriental Pavilion Chinese Restaurant at Jaya 33 is its main attraction. The food has always been very delicious compared to other restaurants. People can't stop talking about the superb dishes they tasted during weddings. It has a large stage and the hall is spacious with a few pillars. The ambiance is the typical modern Chinese Restaurant design, not bad but lacks privacy. It charges 50% for food tasting, but with enough bargaining and tables booking, you may get it free (other benefits as well). Located at Jalan Semangat in PJ, the place is center to the residents in that area, if you are from elsewhere, there may be a problem finding it. You can park at Jaya 33 shopping mall or the Plaza 33 next door. Accommodating staffs and good service are plus points.

Oriental the environment not bad but you need go bargain for free tables or benefit or cocktails before wedding during the wedding fair. food for me, not bad as it had their own specialty but Oriental will charge 50% for food tasting.
I had mine dinner banquet at Oriental Pavilion Jaya33 50 tables. Bargain hard, and eventually Oriental gave us FOC for food tasting.

BS | Red Bliss

I have been researching about BS'es (Wedding Acronym) in Malaysia and found numerous constructive advices from fellow BTBs. Collectively, you will be able to filter out the non-appealing ones and focus on the aspects you care about the most. Hereby I give you the research outcome and two cents worth of my review (References).

                                2♥ : barely making it
3♥ : average - nothing to shout about

Red Bliss (RB) - all about weddings
I read from forums and received from friends various feedback about Red Bliss SS2. The SAs are extremely friendly and trained to serve you at their best abilities. Great marketers. Some say their service is excellent but others beg to differ as the SAs may appear to be trying too hard and they talk too much sometimes. Improvement needed for the receptionist taking customer's calls. It is a very popular choice amongst the people I know and also friends of friend.

List of bridal shops

The shop is spacious and comfortable to be in. It is a corner lot which has a comparatively larger glass window display of wedding dresses and they are stunning. Usually pre-wedding packages allow you to select all the gowns except the new arrivals which you have to pay an additional amount depending your choice of gown. Extra cost will be incurred if you decide to change the PS date or your gown selection.

BTBs specifically point out MUA Beeky as friendly, dedicated and professional. You have to pick the PG carefully though. One of the ways is if you like the photo on display, ask your SA for the PG name. Inform them about your requirements, you want the PG to arrive on time, what elements you want to be in your pictures, if the backdrop or poses suggested by the PG are not to your liking, do voice up. Otherwise the result may not be as you would expect. BTBs recommended PG, Wilson. His work has been described as clean, artistic and natural. Others commented the PG was unskillful and had problems with tardiness. RB provides an MTV DVD which is a video that records all the "behind the scene" + photoshoot events.

Montage sample (2010): (Redbliss) Jason and Stella Pre-Wedding Montage

My pre-wedding photos by RedBliss - Nov 2011
PG: Leon - Funny guy, I am happy with the indoor/ Redbliss private garden shots. the outdoor (Lake Gardens KL) pictures were below our expectation. Some of the images taken were not properly angled and the background looks too noisy.

Videographer (VG): KT - He patiently recorded our photo-shoot process and compiled a wonderful video for us.

MUA: Beeky - At first I thought the makeup was too thick and and it cracked over time. After the images were produced, I realized it did not show at all and the makeup looked good. She is very friendly, takes pride in her work and does it with commitment.

SA: Carmen - Extremely professional young girl. She informed me every single detail and gave recommendations on the dresses to pick. She was accommodating when it comes to the compromise we requested. The reason I chose RB during the Midvalley bridal fair because I thought Carmen was not pushy and I would be happy to have her plan my photoshoot.

Overall: All the deliverables were on time as promised. I did not do much research prior to the wedding expo trip. My intention was to have the bridal shop take care of everything. My hubby was disappointed with the photos and thought the package did not relatively worth the RM3988 we spent. I should have asked done my research better, anyway...

"my SA told me for gown fitting, photo shooting and selection of photos need to be done only on weekday. They do not entertain all these on weekend. Is it depend on the SA. After we sign up they only state all these rule and she somemore said all the appt need to make in advance 3-4 months. After fit the appt cannot be change. A bit regret to sign up with them. Dissapointed with their service even didn;t take my photos yet. They are many bridal shop out there can provide better service. Feel like being cheated. "

"Photographer (Kelvin) - was late for the photoshoot. After makeup, we had to sit around waiting for him for really really long time. He arrived finally, but very unfortunately bringing along bad mood! He snapped many hundreds of pictures, but skill is just so-so, i.e. dont know how to take best angle, his shots are not really creative, not so much variety. But just for normal photos, then it is ok, within acceptable level. SA (Jojo) - we had quite bad experience with her. Everything also "cannot".
"Marketing (Alice) - she is really a good business woman. If all else fail, please talk to her. "
"MUA (Beeky) -she is FANTASTIC! She is the only reason we can tolerate all the other people's nonsense. Skillful, caring and good communication skills."

Vogue Collection Wedding Gallery
http://www.voguecollection.com.my/

*Please take note that Vogue Collection has been taken over by Korea Artiz Studio on 17th Feb 2012.

I was first attracted by Vogue Collection at my colleague's wedding (2011) after watching the photo montage projected. I love the EG (Wedding Acronym) his wife was wearing, well I didn't examine it closely + it was dark during the dinner reception. However at one glance, it was pleasant to the eyes. Vogue brides have been praising enthusiastically about their photography technique. They are very good at bringing out and exhibiting the romance in every couple. Specifying the exact PG you want is a smart thing to do. PG recommended: Wing.

I would advise you to go to the shop and talk to the SAs or manager to test the water before getting involved. Pick the SA who clicks with you, afterall she/ he will be the person you interact with during the whole process of WG selection, date arrangements and negotiations if there is a change of plan. It would be sad if you end up a disgruntled customer due to the service quality. Here are some comments from BTSs on forums, take them with a pinch of salt. Everyone has different expectations and the experience may vary depending on situations. I eliminated the comments made older than 2010, they may not reflect the current circumstances.

Photo sample (2010): Very romantic pre-wedding photos by Vogue Collection. (Note: This video also contains some casual shots taken by other PG)

Clients of Daren Chong are impressed with his photography and work ethics. He would go the extra mile beyond his duty to optimize the result. Some other remarks were that he's friendly, approachable, passionate about the things he does, professional and he delivers great service. He possesses the skill to put the couple at ease during photo-taking. Darren's pre-wedding photo-shoot and editing skill is amazing, the actual wedding day photography is decent not as brilliant. Nonetheless he is on the fast track to success.

His packages include a video besides photo slideshow. He uploaded a few videos on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/21588397.

I found his work when I was researching for my wedding and was captivated hence this post.

Mun Keat
Mun Keat is another inspiring talent. He received great commendation and admiration from couples he had worked with. From the input I compiled so far, he appeared to be a widely favored photographer. This expert is heavily booked up, and you have to make a reservation well in advance. It might be difficult to get a slot. I tried inquiring unfortunately he is not available on the day of my wedding, his assistant Celeste then referred me to a Senior Photographer of Frame Studio; Ndrew.

I have browsed through Mun Keat's highly acclaimed art work and was amazed. He is able to photograph the lovers' character and indicative mood. Almost similar to acting in a movie of their real-life stories; you have the romantic comedy, the drama, thriller, fantasy... It requires detailed execution of art directing by MK himself. They are simply awesome!

Cannot decide between a bridal shop and professional photographer for your pre-wedding pictures, this article may render a little help: Bridal Shop vs Photojournalism.

Music For a Romantic Event

It will be uplifting for friends and family to experience the joy and romantic element of your big day. Music is a very useful tool to set the right mood for this.

Jazz music is calm, smooth very suited for a romantic event. Jazz performer, Debbie (in the video below) improvises the song in her individual ways. The performance is successful because she collaborates well with the musicians and interacts with the crowd using her own interpretation of the tune. Jazz involves some alteration of melody, sometimes with conflicting and interruption of the rhythms. She is able to capture the emotions embodied in the music by swinging melodiously.

The effects created by Saxophone playing stir up strong feelings and go right to your heart. The way saxophone player, Sharil holds the note in a linear way for a while then vibrates the tone to increase the intensity is quite captivating. The approaches such as flutter tonguing - the effect that creates a growling, raspy sound, split tones, attack and release are what make sax music so sexy. It gets people to have profound and dramatic mood transitions.

A String Quartet is a musical ensemble of four string instruments consisting of two violins, a viola and a cello. The first violin which provides the melody is the leader. The second violin is quieter, it harmonizes well. To carry a more majestic tone, the cellist plays the base line. The viola has a thicker sound than the violin. It is able to fill in the harmonies between the crystal violin and forceful cello. The use of stringed orchestral instruments creates great intensity of expression. A piece like "Canon in D" can spark off the emotions of a blissful marriage.

Tanarimba Janda Baik, Bukit Tinggi

Tired of the repetitious wedding celebrations at restaurants and ballrooms in the city? Now couples can have a whole new experience holding their big day events in a location close to mother nature with a cool climate.

Tanarimba in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang is set in 7,299 acres of lush tropical rainforest at over 1500 feet above sea level. About one-fifth of Tanarimba has been set aside for low density development, with the remaining land maintained as a forest reserve.

one fifth set aside for development

You can enjoy the cool, fresh mountain air at Tanarimba, with temperatures ranging between 20°C to 25°C. The perfect condition to organize an outdoor garden wedding. You don't have to worry about sweating off your makeup and guests can enjoy the cool breeze while witnessing the very sacred occasion. I love it. Isn't that amazing?

The air over there was so fresh, breeze so cool and free of air and noise pollution. You can literally see mist floating pass you if you wake up early in the morning after a heavy rain. Superb relaxing and enjoyable. I love the peaceful scenery so much!

Air and noise pollution free. Cool mist greets you in the morning.

Tanarimba is conveniently located just 35 km from downtown Kuala Lumpur (about 45 minutes drive). Is it the same way to the Bukit Tinggi French Village?

The Middle Ring Road II which links to the Karak Highway provides easy access from anywhere in the Klang Valley.

The spectacular timber structure of the Visitors Centre can be used as a function hall for any occasions. It can seat 300 people and has an overall capacity of 500 people. You have to arrange your own catering. Visit List of caterers for the available options. The hall is awesome, the extraordinary wood beams and green surrounding create a very unique ambiance for a modern wedding party. Instead of the loud karaoke sessions, hire a reputable wedding live band to entertain your guests, set a romantic mood and play the background music for your memorable first dance.

Enderong House is a three-storey bungalow house which has a large living area extending out into a wide open verandah, and large covered deck area on the ground floor. Extensive use of timber, stone and glass has created a building that is bright, light and airy.

Annexe Hall is a multi-purpose hall with a large verandah situated at the top of Enderong Annexe wing. It comfortably accommodates up to 80 persons for sit-down dining. Annexe Hall is equipped with audio/visual equipment and a large projector screen.

At Tanarimba you will find fresh, cool air, crystal clear streams, majestic mountains and pristine rain forests, home to some of the oldest trees in the world. The eco-sensitive approach that co-exists in harmony and complements its natural setting makes this a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of city life and spend time closer to nature. This vast venue renders you endless ideas for decoration. Even simple pinned up photos of your pre-wedding collection using clothes peg look amazing. Do not waste the opportunity of seizing the beautiful scenery. Arrange a photo-booth in the woods to make sure you have all the images of the special wedding venue and its surroundings with you and family/ friends in them.

Here’s a great venue for couples who want to show their passion for the environment. Tanarimba at Janda Baik. The venue is really vast, reasonable rental and the ideas to decorate the place are endless. The pine tree trunk pillars really sets a grand ambiance not to mention the simple yet beautiful structure itself. Reminds me very much of the cabins on the mountains in Colorado, US.

Amazing Results by Popular Chris Fong Make Up

The older post I wrote about Chris Fong became the undisputed most popular bridal makeup artist page of WEDresearch wedding blog. It fetched in total of 1510 hits, the all time highest with the most Facebook LIKES. Hence there's little reason for me not to write another blog review on this popular MUA. I was initially drawn to her by the "before and after" makeup photos on her official websites. The transformation was unbelievably amazing. I thought she created wonders with her proficient fingers.

With this post I have carried out a more in depth study and gathered better understanding on her bridal styling. Chris understands every bride's desire to be beautiful and to photograph well. She is going to make you look like the best version of yourself not someone barely recognizable. After a session of careful analysis on the results she delivered, I am now more convinced of the reason she's so widely admired. The bridal makeup is not over-applied. Chris contours the bride's facial and eyes attributes to compose an outstanding look intensifying their own natural beauty.

Read the actual brides' reviews and understand their perceptions of Chris Fong. Brides loved the natural makeup and fantastic hairdo she created which turned them into a classic beauty. She is very talented and professional in conforming to the situation at hand. No more puffy eyes! The computing term WYSIWYG is the acronym for "What you see is what you get". Likewise Chris' deliverable is WYAIWYG which is "What you ask is what you get". Her customers seemed to receive the styling they requested with high satisfaction.

I had short hair and had been really worried about how my look will turn out to be. 2 weeks before my wedding event Chris came to my house, and I shared my concern with her and told her that I did not want to wear fake long hair, she took note of my request and just asked me to get some hair piece that I like, which I did. And the whole effect turned out awesome! I also told her I wanted elegant, "bare" and natural look, I did not like heavy make up, and again she did a really good job. When we met, Chris went thru' all my gowns to have a better idea of how to design my makeup and hairdo."

Brides were absolutely delighted with the results crafted by Chris as they were complimented about how pretty they looked. With her experience, she is able to turn a concern or problematic condition into an advantage. The anxious bride with short hair got an awesome bridal look with the right combination of hair piece, accessories, makeup and styling. Veron commented Chris got rid of her puffy eyes and turned her from a monster into a beauty. Btw she is not at all a monster :) (photo below)

Groom's Suit/ Attire

Men suits don't have the variety of and are not as fancy as bridal gowns. Nevertheless there are still many details to look into in finding the right suit for your wedding. If you want to look suave and sharp, choosing the right combination/ measurement of jacket, tie, cravat, shirt, waistcoat (vest), pants that fits you is the way to go.

The basic difference between Tuxedo and Suit. Tuxedo shirts have pleated front and the jacket lapels are covered in satin material. Tux pants feature matching satin stripe going down the outer leg of the pants. It is suitable for semi formal events like prom, weddings, charity events, award ceremonies. Suit shirt has a plain front, long sleeves with full length buttoned. It is worn on more conservative and formal events like business meetings, weddings, funerals.

Here are some general rules of how your suit should fit. For instance, half inch of your shirt cuff is exposed, shoulder should be slightly sloping downward evenly, the width of the pants should be adjusted so they hang without any bulges, jacket is in the right length and should just cover the top of your rear end...

The material to consider when tailoring a suit is Wool. Most modern suits are made of wool and it is perhaps the safest choice if you are unsure of the fabric to choose. It’s a very versatile fabric, comfortable, wrinkle-resistant, and has greater durability compared to others. Another characteristic that makes wool an ideal suit fabric is its ability to keep their wearers warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather.

Cotton can absorb sweat and keep you cool in hot weather. This fabric is quite practical as it’s machine-washable. However 100 percent cotton tends to crease and wrinkle somewhat easily.

A linen suit is lightweight and will keep you very cool but it creases very easily.

Tweed is a heavy fabric that makes it easy for the wearer to keep warm but you will be sweating in hot weather.
