Venus Bridal House in Johor Bahru

Described as the second most expensive bridal shop in JB after Enya Mareine, Venus Bridal Selection is a very popular choice for engaged couples who intend to make some pre-wedding photos. The shop's atmosphere is comfy and the sales assistants are attentive. Li Ling is nice, she provides excellent customer service. Clients complained about Amanda who was rude.

This bridal studio is famous for its beautiful fantasy photos and their amazing photo editing skill. With unique backdrop and setting in the studio, the indoor photos turn out very captivating. Brides are satisfied with MUA Jimmy and PG Derrick. If you take the more expensive package, you can choose ALL the gowns, including designer gowns, otherwise only normal gowns from 'factories' can be chosen.

I was with Venus, their photoshoot was awesome but AD gowns CMI, they only have a small range of AD gowns. It's either e gowns are taken or the color of the gowns couldn't match your wedding theme.
Was utterly dissappointed after they recieve more than half of our money. Their service sucks and don't bother to serve us as compare to the first time.

I'm with Venus, luckily my coordinator is really Patient & understanding. From wat u said, trying ard 7 EG & they alrdy show attitude, I can't imagine wat I would encounter as I tried over 20 WG & EG before deciding..& my coordinator is really nice to giv me 1 more EG coz I can't dEcide between the 2 that I've shortlisted. I agree w u, that JB BS do not have gd variety of WG & EG for selection. I almost wanted to source for another BS for my AD, so dun worry as u're not the only 1. My WG & EG are not my perfect 1, abit disappointed. Luckily my photos all came out better den what I expect.

Jack is a good consultant and many things can be negotiated with him, he then told us he actually not sales person but designer, just come down n help sale department. We then sign our package with him since he offer us a good package rm 4888 with more than 30+ poses.
But unfortunately once we signed package, again we were refered again to the lady i dislike Amanda haihhh... every time she treat so rude, all requrement that we need she said can not.  after see my 1 selection result, i was really unsatisfy cos i thought their editing skill are great but once saw mine haihhh dun think their quality better than others bridal shop. They just keep repeating their standard editing. the only good point in venus is only their indoor.

Min Kok Chinese Restaurant (明佫鱼翅酒家) Seremban

As someone who grew up in Seremban, I have been to many weddings of friends, relatives in this town not far away from KL. Min Kok restaurant is famous for its breakfast dim sum; more often than not there's a big crowd lining up for a table in the morning especially during holidays or weekends. My experience with this restaurant in term of wedding food was very good. It has a pretty high standard taste wise, better than a lot of Chinese Restaurants in the Klang Valley. I am not talking about food presentation here.

Other than that, the decor is very very minimalist, and 90's. You definitely won't enjoy the noise from another wedding, the "yum seng" or karaoke singing, which is just a partition away. Parking is always full when there is a wedding happening.

The Real Insights to Buying Diamonds | Beyond 4Cs

I wonder how many of you perform a thorough research on diamonds before shopping for that engagement ring. If you are keen but don't know where to start, I would recommend beyond4cs.com for very extensive yet easy to understand insights to buying diamonds. Here's my abstract of some of the useful info and tips you can find on this website, written by Paul Gian (avid gem collector,  GIA’s Diamonds Diploma graduate, gemology enthusiast). Click on the link for more detailed descriptions from the original site.

When you are shopping for a piece of diamond jewelry, a grading report is an important document which not only provides you with a scientific blueprint of the diamond’s properties and characteristics, it also attests to the diamond’s authenticity. Paul's advice is to purchase diamonds that are graded by a reliable gemological lab, namely GIA and AGS. Other labs had been known to be lax in their grading.

GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, is the leading gemological laboratory in the world with high grading standards and consistency. Here's an example of a GIA report.

insight to diamond
1. Header of the Report – Who Actually Graded the Diamond?
2. Report Number, Cutting Style And Measurements
3. The Four Cs – Classification And Attributes
4. Additional Grading Information
5. Reference Diagrams
6. Security Features And Authenticity Marks

The 4 main characteristics to look for when you are searching for a diamond are the 4Cs; Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat. Using the GIA system grading as an example:

Cut refers to a combined aspect of a diamond’s proportions and finishing (symmetry/polish) which can be classified into grades: Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor. Paul considers Cut as the most important factor among the 4Cs as it determines the brilliance and beauty of the diamond. It is  recommended that you always place your emphasis on getting the best cut possible.

Carat weight - One carat is equal to 200 milligrams of diamond or 100 points. It corresponds directly to the price of the diamond. It is also a well-known fact that most people would prefer larger looking diamonds. If budget permits, going for a bigger stone without sacrificing cut is usually a good idea according to the website. Sometimes a well-cut stone with a smaller carat weight can be a much better purchase than a larger one because it will be visibly larger and more attractive than the one that is cut badly.

Color - White (colorless) diamonds are generally more valuable and commonly used in jewelry as they have better reflective qualities. GIA grades it from D (colorless) to Z (light brown or yellow). As long as it faces up white, a color grade from D to G is fine.

Clarity - The lesser amount of blemishes (external flaws like scratches and chips) and inclusions (internal flaws like pinpoints and crystals) a gemstone has, the higher the clarity grade. GIA grades Clarity as follows (using 10× magnification):
– FL (Flawless) – No inclusions or visible blemishes
– IF (Internally Flawless) (IF)
– No inclusions. Minute blemishes
– VVS1 & VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included) – Inclusions are extremely hard to be detected
– VS1 & VS2 (Very Slightly Included)
– Inclusions are fairly hard to be detected
– SI1 & SI2 (Slightly Included)
– Inclusions are easily noticeable
– I1, I2, and I3 (Included)
– Inclusions are very obvious
As long as the diamond is eye-clean, it didn’t really matter if the clarity was a VS2 or a VVS1.

This website provides a "Step by step guide to choosing a diamond" which goes beyond the 4 Cs. Viewed under strong lighting in a jewelry store, even diamonds with the worst cut quality can be made to sparkle. The grading report alone Does Not tell you the full story of a diamond’s physical beauty without doing some further analysis. For instance while the GIA grading system can provide a fairly good assessment of the diamond’s brilliance, GIA also allows a wide range of proportions to exist within their triple excellent Cut ratings. To help you decide which diamond has better performance, you can
  • Use the Holloway Cut Advisor (HCA) as a Weeding Tool. This program enabled the layman to key in variables found in the grading report and makes an instant prediction on the diamond’s visual appeal and performance. Here's an Online HCA. A diamond with a score of less than 2.0 passes the first test and warrants a closer examination. Remember, the Holloway Cut Advisor is a “rejection” tool and not meant to be used a “selection” tool. HCA Scores: 0-2 Excellent | 2-4 Very Good | 4-6 Good | 6-8 Fair | 8-10 Poor
  • Use simple tool called the Idealscope which allows you to determine a diamond’s optics in an objective manner (for round brilliants). It is easier to analyse and understand an idealscope image and figure out what to look out for. Red is desirable and indicates light return while diamonds with too much white areas indicates problems with light leakage. It costs about RM150.
  • Obtain an ASET image. This will help you determine the optical characteristics and performance of the diamond (for fancy shape diamonds). You can find more details about ASET scope and determining optics of fancy shape diamond here.
The ASET and Idealscope pictures indicate a stone with supreme optical performance. With the correct amounts of reds (brilliance) and blacks (contrast), it is the pinnacle of a bright and scintillating diamond.
  • Inspect the Stone With a Hearts And Arrows (H&A) Viewer. When viewed from the top (crown), an ideally cut diamond should reveal eight symmetrical arrows. On the other hand, when the diamond was viewed from the bottom (pavilion), it should reveal eight symmetrical hearts. Due to the extreme level of cutting precision required for symmetrical patterning, Hearts and Arrows diamonds are sometimes called “super ideals” with superior light performance, material quality and precise optical symmetry.
G color VS2 1.085 carat ACA super ideal hearts and arrows diamond
  • For online shoppers, having a magnified image or video to help you visualize the stone’s appearance is a MUST. You can make a request from Online jewelers like Whiteflash, James Allen and BrianGavinDiamonds for an ASET/ Idealscope image and other data for free.

On paper, two very similar looking diamonds that are graded as having an excellent cut by GIA can have very different optical performances. Without the HCA and additional light performance data, you would practically be shopping in the dark. While the diamond on the right (1.01 carat F VVS2) is still a decent rock, Paul would not recommend it when given a choice between these 2 options. This is because its light performance is lacking a little (evident by pale ring under the table facet which indicates light loss) and doesn’t face nearly as bright as the one on the left.”
differentiate excellent diamond
(On Left) Idealscope Images: Round 1.01 Excellent – F – VVS1 vs. (On Right) Round 1.02 Excellent – F – VVS2

culet
Anatomy of a diamond
The website also explains additional grading information such as depth and table %, girdle thickness, fluorescence, polish and symmetry and what to look out for. There are many useful articles; A Critical Look at Carat Sizes and Their Prices, Checklist to Help you Choose a Diamond, Where is the Best Place to Buy an Engagement Ring, Diamond Prices – The Shopper’s Guide to Determining Value, among others. Just do a Keywords Search on the top right corner of the website for the topic you want to read about.

When it comes to buying diamonds, the trickiest part to making educated decisions is the ability to evaluate the diamond prior to a purchase. Therefore Paul thinks that shopping online is actually safer and cheaper than buying a diamond in a local store based on his experience, research and pure facts.
  • You get to see indepth and objective information about the diamond. Online vendors like JamesAllen.com offers you the ability to interact with diamonds in far greater details than you would in a brick and mortar store - with features like videos/gemological inspections/after-sales policies/fully insured free shipping to help you make better purchases.

James Allen.com provides 360 view with options to select different cuts (round, princess, heart), carats, material of the ring.
  • No questions asked money back guarantee. In contrast, most local stores would only allow store credit in the event of a return. They do this to lock you in with doing business with them.
  • Better selections and range of diamond inventory.
  • Low prices to get a better bang of your buck. For round brilliant cuts with similar grading specifications, he found that the physical stores generally list their inventory at a 30%-80% higher pricing than online stores.
  • You won’t get misled by a salesperson who wants to make a commission off a sale but has very little knowledge about diamonds. You can avoid making impulsive decisions.
To get the best value out of your engagement ring purchase, Paul highly recommends online vendors like James Allen, White Flash and BrianGavinDiamonds. Not only do they offer an impeccable shopping experience, they also provide in-depth details of their listings to help you make educated decisions.

0.928 ct G VS2 Expert Selection Round Cut Loose Diamond
You can see small areas of light leakages beneath the table. The truth is, these areas of light leakages are only detectable by trained eyes in real life and are very minor issues. Yet, this stone was downgraded into the 2nd tier of in-house diamonds and this should give you an idea of how strict Whiteflash’s criteria are for their top-tier ACA diamonds.

Posh Wedding Bridal Shop @ SS2

Posh Wedding has a team of very talented photography and makeup team. Photographer, Sky Sun in particular is very friendly, funny, helpful, professional and has been described as top notch. The team puts their customer first and ensures that they have a great photo-shooting experience. One of the couples got a free gown upgrade from SA Qiqi who provided good customer service. Elaine on the other hand did not perform as well. Generally they are not pushy and will help you to select the best photos instead. Make-up artist, Alice and SA Alicia are good.

What's bothering some customers are the manager/ SA named Tommy who appeared to be rather impolite when dealing with the couples. Someone said he left Posh Wedding. You can choose all the gowns in the shop except the custom-made ones, if they tell you, you are free to pick any gown, check first. The gowns included in the package might not be as good quality as you expect. If you don't like too much of photo-editing, do let them know.

Hey Le Ann, so far I am satisfied with their service. my PG was Sky, he's a very friendly and funny guy. Helped us a lot on the shooting day. Very professional.
When it comes to wedding gowns, we do not need to nego for upgrade because we can choose all the gowns in the shop except those custom made ones. But i did not take their advice on which gown to choose, cuz they seemed to promote their old gowns more! >.< but they didn't force me to take their old gowns when i decided on their newer gowns.
During the time we picked our photo, they didn't push us to add photo at all! I am very surprised by this, as most of the bridal shop would push and do hard sells during that time. When we mentioned that we do not want to add anymore photos to the album, the person-in-charge did her best to help us to choose the best pictures!!! =)
However, it took us 2 months to see our picture designs... which I find a long time to wait!
Overall, it had been quite good with POSH. Although they have their flaws. Oh ya, if you are particular about photos, you might not want to come here. My photos are very standard, nothing special.
BTW, My package is about 4K. Hope this review helps!

Mar 2011 - Jan 2013 (combined comments)
POSITIVE COMMENTS: i engaged them for my pre-wedding last year: Their teams were superb. Sky the photographer, together with his assistant were very good - we started shooting from 12pm till 11pm and all they had is a doughnut and a drink. I'm happy with the photographs which is great even without touch up. But just be careful with the person who did the touch up as they were outsourced by the company and they went way overboard with the touch up. The consultant, Qiqi, was also very nice and gave me free upgrades of my AD gowns. I do agree though that there was one guy who was very pushy. But we don't deal with him most of the time, so it was ok.
Here's my package 3388 (Mar 2011):
5 gowns for photoshoot
2 gowns for AD
20 pages big album
1 big photo frame
2 smaller photo frame 9about A4 size
100 jimui pics
100 softcopy
1 slideshow DVD
1 signature book
But I did top up RM299 as entrance fee to take the airplane shots. We also top up about RM600 for new tailormade coat and pants for my husband. The coat need to be returned but he can keep the pants.
The photographer was top notch, SKY - Malaysia photographer. but its just such a waste such good photographer / make up artist and his camera assistant is working with a company with such bad management.
i get my pre wedding with POSH also.. i was satisfied with the service when i took pictures in taiwan, the photographer named jeremy huang. He is outsource photographer by POSH kl. He and his team very nice and helpful :) But i dont like the services provided by KL POSH. They have no patient and not helpful.
My photographer is 恭鉻. He is a very nice guy.

NEGATIVE COMMENTS: manager, Tommy love simply increase d price n shouting behind you like a gangster, luckily I still not pay d deposit,I really remember d way he approach me n talk to me,really harassing me,at d end just walk out,and wanna know more about their gimmick, just email me youyou_is_me@hotmail.com, like what kind of paper they are using ....and more and more, their clothing, gown...don't trust their album...just email me. Watch out for this guy name Tommy and his wife Pei Yee or something.
after we sign the package and paid the deposit, everything that they promised has changed. When we went to their bs for gown choosing, many of the nicer gowns need to add money. They do not honour their words. They say that they do not have category for the gowns, but some of the gowns need to add money. All their gowns that is included in the package is not nice and outdated! The nicer gowns need to add additional cost but it is not worth it as their package is not cheap and even if you add the cost, the gowns are not as nice as other bs! We have met few staff which are nice and polite at first but most of them are resigning. One of the staff name Elaine is bad service.

Vera Wang - Wedding Dress Extraordinaire

Her biography and success stories were indeed intriguing. At the age of 40 in 1989 she wedded Arthur Becker, then CEO of an information technology services company called NaviSite. In planning for the wedding she went on a search for a perfect dress at several department stores and bridal boutiques but only found a "sameness to everything." She wanted something more elegant and subdued, but there wasn't anything. Eventually Vera gave up and hired a dressmaker to create her own gown. The gown cost $10,000.

Vera and Arthur's wedding
In 1990, she opened her own design salon in the Carlyle Hotel in New York that features her trademark bridal gowns with financial backing from her father. The Vera Wang label quickly took off, earning praise from the fashion elite for its luxurious fabrics, exquisite detailing and modern interpretation of classic lines. Vera Wang's early years experience in the fashion industry working for Vogue and Ralph Lauren might be the initial stepping stone, however her hard work in striving to do everything well brings her to the successful position now.

Vera Wang has made wedding gowns for many well-known public figures, such as Chelsea Clinton, Ivanka Trump, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Victoria Beckham, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez , Jennifer Garner, Sharon Stone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hilary Duff, Uma Thurman, Holly Hunter, Kate Hudson, and Kim Kardashian. Kimberly Noel "Kim" Kardashian was the highest earning reality star in 2010. In August 2011, she married basketball player Kris Humphries in a widely publicized ceremony, then filed for divorce, 72 days after the wedding.

Local celebrity brides who dressed Vera Wang were E! News Asia host Marion Caunter, our very own talented songstress Fish Leong and actress Memey Suhaiza. Marion and S M Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, chairman of Naza Group of Companies were married in 2010 at the grand Mandarin Oriental Hotel. She wore the gown designed by Vera for the cake cutting ceremony.

You can locate the nearest bridal store you might be visiting, at http://www.verawang.com/stores/ to hunt for a piece of VW for your upcoming wedding if you have a designer gown budget. the knot offers gowns by VW. Their price range is USD600 - 1500.

Looking for Vera Wang dresses in the Klang Valley/ KL/ Selangor? There are Vera Wang gowns available at Artiz Studio Korea and Mercer Weddings, both located at SS2 PJ. One of my readers told me Artiz Korea has 4 pieces of Vera gowns.

Grand Imperial Chinese Restaurant (喜粤) - Bangsar Shopping Centre

It was a busy weekend with my cousin brother's wedding; the Chinese cultural ceremony as well as the dinner at Grand Imperial BSC. Many congratulations to Wayne and Jacqueline!

seremban rasah actual day ceremony

Thanks to Waze GPS navigation we managed to escape the jam en route to the mall at Bangsar. Parking in Bangsar Shopping Centre is ok but the entrance to the mall is rather inconvenient as there's always lots of people waiting for the lift during peak hours (on a Saturday!), escalators are scarce. We ended up taking the stairs instead.

Went up to the 3rd floor and there was the Grand Imperial restaurant tucked in one corner. The guests reception area is in front at the entrance of the restaurant at one side while the wedding dinner is at the back of the restaurant and you will walk pass the walk-in patron tables to get there. The banquet hall is very very cozy with great ambiance, glittering chandeliers, comfortable lighting, new and comprehensive table setting.

nice table cloth hot towels!
Nice table cloth, hot towels, full set of tableware

Here comes the bride+groom. Menu. Complimentary wedding favor (ROKA chocolate).

Well the hall is great, lighting all good, well decorated stage but too bad the few pillars in it would block the view of some guests. Our table was directly beside the stage and I could not see anything projected on the screen. I think it needs a bit of re-organizing and arranging the front tables further away from the stage.

Many commented that the food here is awesome. To me the wedding food at the Grand Imperial BSC was good in general. I loved the four season combination platter - the varieties are somewhat refreshing. The roasted village chicken is insterestingly not tough and quite tender. Love the rich taste of the well seasoned meat. The fish steamed with ginger and preserved vege was a good match and very yummy. The tiger prawn and noodle dishes were good.

The shark fin soup was quite bland, the shredded chicken and bamboo pith were chewy with not much flavor. Did not like the loh hon cai (vegetarian dish) which was not braised well, the ingredients have not fused into the broth.

It was a fun night being entertained by wedding emcee Desmond Ting who stole the show with his jokes and the entire hall was filled with lots of laughter. He was very spontaneous.

Was here attending a friend's wedding. The place was rather small and crammed, not their problem though.
Service was attentive though it was a busy wedding dinner with so many things going on. The staffs were well trained that the server serving our table remembered our preference and likes in just 2 short hours service.
The food was one of the best I have had for a wedding dinner. Presentation was top notched and delicious, especially the iberico spare ribs. The portion was good too. We left feeling full and satisfied, very uncommon for a chinese wedding dinner.

My best mate had his wedding dinner at Grand Imperial a couple months back. It was a rainy Friday night and the traffic and the rain resulted in SO many people being late. Even worse was that some of the latecomers couldn't find any parking in BSC and decided to leave. And there are a lot of thick pillars so quite a few guests couldn't see anything happening on stage. Food wasn't that good either, but then again that does tend to happen to all restaurants where the logistics of having to cook for hundreds of people at once does affect the taste/quality somewhat.
