    Hi there,

I'm writing on behalf of a group of clients (I'm obviously one of them) that have had bad experiences with 'Fabulous Chapter', in particular their main photographer, Kenneth Tan. This company is notorious for giving empty promises and ignoring their clients once
they have collected the money and did a half-ass job.

First of all, let me just say that there is no doubt from a photography point of view, these guys are good, but in terms of customer service, there are none worse……I speak from my own experience. Recently, one of the members in our group told us that they've been waiting for their wedding photos for more than a year now and still have not receive them (they also waited 8 months for their pre-wedding photos despite the 2 months dateline). There are countless stories like that from their clients and the general consensus seems to be the same with every client of theirs – mostly dissatisfied. To make matters worse, it is impossible to get in touch with the company, as mails, FB messages and calls are often ignored completely. They know they can get away with it because honestly, when you get to that point, as a client, what can you really do ?

I believe it takes more than raw skills to be a professional. The way that 'Fabulous Chapter' handles client is unprofessional in every way. I guess the experience is not so 'Fabulous' after all.

I think your organization should take into account the quality of your members, not just in terms of photography skills, but how they conduct themselves in the business. It's people like this that give the industry a bad name

A wedding is a once in a lifetime special occasion and you want to make sure that the company you appoint appreciates that as much as you do. Unfortunately, we made a bad choice.

I for once will definitely not consider using this company in the future nor can I recommend them to anyone. Don't be fooled by what they offer on the surface. Look hard enough and you'll definitely find tons of better photographers out there, for a more reasonable price too.

We just hope that other people will not fall into the same trap.

    You have been warned

I wrote a comment in response to the above comment awhile back with regards to wedding photography by Kenneth Tan from Fabulous Chapter. For some reason, when I check back, my comments never appeared.

I just wanted to highlight that I am also a victim to Kenneth Tan. My wedding was in February, and up till today I have yet to receive satisfactory wedding photos despite payment in full. My experience with him is exactly as illustrated by the previous posts, and I have to wholeheartedly agree with what has been said of Kenneth Tan and his company Fabulous Chapter.

I have also noticed that his name has been removed from the list of photographers from this website. I am glad to see that you no longer endorse him or his company. However, I feel that purely by removing his name will not prevent future couples from falling victim to him. Instead I reckon his name should be highlighted as a to be avoided photographer.

In essence, he is a con man. I have given up hope in trying to get my previous wedding photos back, but I sure as hell would not wish this upon anyone else. So please warn future brides – your website is a precious resource to researching brides,

    September 14, 2012 at 2:04 am

Thanks Anonymous 1 and 2. I believe they were already two brides who fell into the same mishap caused by Kenneth Tan from Fabulous Chapter. Someone by the name of Jasmine Keller posted on http://www.malaysiabrides.com/forum/topic/30942-fraud-wedding-photographer-kenneth-tan/ about her encounter with this PG. It was shocking! According to her, he was dancing and drinking with the guests, lost the memory card with all the picture which was later found, later calls, emails, messages were unanswered, she even took the case to Malaysian Consumer Tribunal without avail, still no pictures.

How was he as a person when you first met him? I wonder if he has something to say about all these complaints. He was a member of WPPM. But when I checked the latest list: http://wppm.com.my/pro-members/, he is no more there.

    Hi brides of Fabulous Chapter,
Could you provide your names or nicknames so the other BTBs know how many have actually fallen prey to their bad service? How much did he charge for a full day wedding coverage? How about pre-wedding photoshoot?

I'm sure with enough social media pressure, he would respond to the complaints and hopefully do something to rectify the situation.

Thanks for warning us girls… I'm glad that I found this out before inquiring about Fabulous Chapter. This is really a great platform for brides to get insightful reviews.

I too have engaged Kenneth Tan from Fabulous Chapter for my actual day wedding in December 2011. We hired him for a comprehensive, full day – 2 photographers wedding photography package ( we had to pay extra for transportation charges too). It’s been nearly 10 months & to-date I have not received any photos despite my many emails/ FB messages and calls. My first thought was he has lost all my wedding pictures , but after researching online and reading this blog, I can see that many are in the same predicament as I am.

We were told that it will take 2 months for post processing. Since I did not hear from him after 2 months, I sent him an email on 28th FEB and got a reply from Alice (his assistant cum GF) on 1st Mar to say that our photos were in progress and will inform us as soon as it is ready. There were no updates after a month, I sent another email to them again in April and every month after that .. NO replies whatsoever after March from either Kenneth or Alice.

Worst of all, I thought I could show my wedding pictures to my very sick dad. Unfortunately, he passed away April this year and did not live see any of the photos at all. I’m not trying to get any sympathy points from anyone, I just want to share how disappointing and painful my experience was (& still is) and I hope those reading this will not fall prey to this unscrupulous photographer.

Totally unprofessional for someone who calls himself a ‘professional’ photographer! He leaves his clients in a limbo, chasing him for updates and does not even have the courtesy to return calls / emails. The level of professional service from him is just horrendous and a total nightmare! It’s been a painful process to get in touch with him and I’m at my wits end trying to get my wedding photos.

Help support the cause, spread the word and expose this unethical photographer – too many have fallen victim – do not let him get away with this – don't let this jerk ruin the most important day of your life…

That's what forums like these are for:

Hi Cherish, Alan and S Ann and the others,
I am sure you have done future brides a great favor by spreading the words about your bad encounter. wedding photography has now become lucrative business. To-be-married couples suffer when the photographers only concern about profitability and neglect the professionalism. You will and should get your photos back and all that you deserve for the damage. When you mentioned photos, those are photo albums and framed photos too, besides the soft copies?

    Dear Le Ann,

After 1 year and lots of patience and heartache, we've finally got the photos in hand. In my opinion, Kenneth has shown genuine remorse for the delay and heartache he caused us. He told me he wil make a public apology on his Facebook to all the couples affected. He has admitted that it was entirely his fault in cursing my husband and mismanaging his business as he was also going through some personal problems.

I really hated having to do what I did but I think it worked and got us the result. All the affected couples have reported that they have received their photos over the past few days or at least gotten a call from him. I have forgiven him as I think he deserves a second chance once he has righted all the wrongs directly with his affected clients. I hope you can remove my comments above (including Anonymous 3) as I do not wish to defame him further.

Such a shame for these so called 'warning/advice/tips' for future BTBs are being removed one by one!!

Seems that most of the 'suffering brides and grooms' have fulfilled their requests from the unethical photographer – Kenneth Tan, Fabulous Chapter via commenting on these public forum, sharing their pain and mental distress in dealing with him,now it has been slowly removed after you guys compromised with Kenneth. So my question is, how does this forum serves as a 'warning/advice/tips' for future BTBs?

    • Le Ann
      October 11, 2012 at 1:06 am

Thanks for your response. I know where you are coming from. However I think the individual has to right to complain about certain wedding vendor and remove the comment later on if she/ he thinks it is not applicable anymore. you can do so in malaysiabrides forum too. there is still an alert in the post about this photographer and the previous bad complaints that were received. I will also add that he had return the photos to some of the brides. Besides only condemning people, this bridal portal also wishes to help brides with their requests and make "professionals" realize the importance of integrity. Isn't that what we are trying to achieve, a win-win situation, brides get back their photos and we have a regretful talented PG who is genuinely remorseful and is willing to change, on top of that an alert to warn BTBs about the past occurrence.

Are you one of his "victims"? Fyi, you can comment as "Name/URL" so I can identify you 🙂 feel free to review/ provide your feedback about the vendors that you worked with before.

I am a researching BTB, I consider myself very lucky get to read these negative comments and true stories from other sites, and get to know how other couples suffering for years chasing photos. Just feel pity for other future researching BTBs that won't be able to read the insight of this unethical photographer.

Don't use photography to make money and abuse tolerance and civilisation of people.Using public forum to force a photographer to produce photos is really a shame on photography industries.

      Thanks anyway!

    • Le Ann
      October 11, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Well I don't think it's shameful, in my opinion. You have the right to voice your dissatisfaction, I have the right to disagree, in the same way these brides have the right to complain, and they can withdraw their harsh comments when the conflict has been resolved and think they should not have uttered such remarks. They were at their wits end and didn't know what else to do. turning to social media and public forum was their hope. If I were the brides, having to go through such predicament, I would not have removed the comments even though the photos were gotten back finally. however I am not them. You have to ask them to explain in more detail why would they want to remove those comments. I know it's a pity future BTBs are not able to read them.

Actually I don't quite understand the phrase "Don't use photography to make money and abuse tolerance and civilisation of people" you mentioned. Anyway I am just giving my opinion, it could be right or wrong, depending on how each individual perceives it. I started this site when I was researching for my own wedding. there was so much data and I had to store it somewhere. Instead of keeping everything to myself I shared the information with everyone, hoping BTBs will provide their reviews as well. I collected comments from various sites which are available for public viewing, post them here with the source I reference from. If someone requests that I remove their comments or photos, I would do so. I don't want to be liable for any kinda cyber infringement shit.

I totally agreed your site/opinions is helpful and valued.

Your probably have misunderstood. That phase is writing to the attention of photographer after reading the stories from the suffering brides, hoping they understand their unprofessionalism can cause alot of pain and panic for people (brides and grooms)

Thanks for the explanation. sorry for the misunderstanding.

    • Cherish
      October 13, 2012 at 8:30 am

Even though I have chosen to remove my post, I do respect the decision of other couples who chose to leave their post as it is, perhaps just including an update. This is a good way to have checks and balances for photographers. It will keep them on their toes and ensure that they act in a professional way towards their clients and deliver the promised goods on time. One's actions must be consistent with ones's words. If anyone gets caught in a similar situation in the future, they will know that there are avenues to voice their dissatisfaction and get results.

If it weren't for forums like these, I wonder if all the affected clients would get their photos any sooner or not.

I also think that if any of the statements made about him were untrue, he can definitely defend himself publicly. If the matter has been resolved, and he has truly learnt his lesson, there shouldn't be any reason why he can't apologize to his clients publicly either.

In the future, if he conducts his business in a proper and professional way, there will be clients who come to his defense and give glowing testimonials. And he can slowly rebuild his business on firmer ground.

sorry to hear, i tot he would have changed his ways after so many negative comments. seriously, this is one of the considerations that BTB should look into before engaging a PG – the delivery. while one may take great pictures, whats the point of engaging him/her when there is no delivery or delivery after 12 months? sigh……………..

      January 9, 2013 at 2:44 pm

Wow that's already more than a year! I wasn't Kenneth Tan's client. His disgruntled customers like you could not get in touch with him, were desperate to get their photos back. So they left some comments on my blog, as well as other wedding forum. There was even a Facebook page created to boycott this particular photographer. These actions successfully triggered him to return the photos he owed them. He also apologized and made things right with some of the people who commented here. Sadly we are still getting messages from bride/ groom who are chasing him for their outstanding photos.

Hello Kenneth Tan, if you are reading this, could you please respond to these upset customers?

We visited his studio while in KL just before the NY and Kenneth was not there. We tried calling him and managed to get through the second time (He was in Penang doing another photo shoot).

Kenneth apologised for the Delay, and confirmed that we will be able to pick up our photos before Feb. I will keep you guys posted if we do not get anything in return.

      – draft album layout
      – courier tracking number
      – provided our address so they can forward the items.

It is now 18th Feb 2013, and I have received NOTHING!

Have you received your photos? What happened to the FB page? Are you going to bring it back up? Any suggestions on how to help Chris get her wedding photos back?

    • Anonymous
      February 21, 2013 at 8:50 am

Chris, as a former client of Kenneth Tan, I can tell you that what you have experienced is nothing new. All disgruntled clients seemed to have gone through the same heartache and disappointment of being let down multiple times by false promises. Until such time when he feels the unbearable pressure from a particular client, an email from Alice will come asking for your address to deliver the goods, thus giving you false hope. As the date of delivery approaches, again no news. This will go on for some time until a threat is made. It's crazy that normal, reasonable people are driven into being the "bad guys" for demanding what rightfully belongs to them. This usually happens after many many many months of patient waiting / pleading / begging for the photos back. You want your photos back? Launch a massive publicity drive of your experience and sit back and wait for a grovelling Kenneth Tan to come to you begging for forgiveness and "magically" delivering all the goods.

      Hi Lee Ann,

As it turns out, after waiting for my photos for over 1 year, I finally got them this week. We had an album included in the package and I'm saddened to say the photos put into the album were shocking. No where near the standard of his previous work, and obviously rushed.

There were photos of people with their eyes shut, and the most embarrassing facial expressions. I don't think there was any post processing work done at all, or any thought. Some of the photos came out looking like what an amateur could do with expensive gear.

You would think that it was worth the wait, but I was left saddened and disappointed by the whole experience. For those left waiting for your photos, I'm sorry to say that with all the energy I put into getting my photos back, it was not even close to worth the wait.

      February 22, 2013 at 3:25 pm

It's a quite a waste of talent with someone so gifted who does not put it to good use. Upholding one's professionalism is way more valuable than profit. If business becomes too overwhelming, one should stop taking in new assignments or hire more staff to take care of post processing/ album design and printing. The last thing any customer wants is for the vendor to over-promise & under-deliver. Anon's advice to launch a massive drive, facebook page…JP did that and she finally got the photos, though the it was not worth all the effort at all.

Feedback for Edwin Tan photography: Our choice photographer was Edwin Tan for pre-wedding & dinner reception. Edwin Tan is a very patient photographer. He guided us on how to pose and was also very open to our ideas. He is also funny and made us feel relaxed and comfortable during the photo shoot. We discussed with him on our idea of pre-wedding photoshoot and Edwin gave advice on which location would be good. He is not pushy as he wants the decision to be made solely by the bride & groom and that’s what all professionals do. He loves natural shots, hence the photos were great.

Stories.my needs no introduction. 🙂 I fell in love with their work early 2013, almost immediately after I got engaged. They way they take their pictures literally brings to life the saying, "a picture speaks a thousand words". Grace and her team captures the emotions that are going on throughout the day. She gives us the proper direction ie. how to angle ourselves, build up our emotions, positions our guests to take very unique angled pictures…

I went with Stories because I felt I was on the same wavelength as them when it came to their photography style. As I mentioned before in another comment, having the correct feel with your vendors is a very important thing.

I myself is a videographer in Perth and Ken Soh has worked with me. We have a network here with people in the industry. He is quick and talented. i just got my prewedding photoshot in may this year. and i want to share abit of experience of me and my wife going to taiwan to have this photoshoot… we were at this wedding fair at pwtc and my wife saw this judy wedding. the sales girl was pushing hard and giving many freebies in order for us to sign up. so we were attracted and signed the package which is rm3100. i must say i was abit blur because i paid the whole rm3100 without even surveying others photo company.. when i get back home, i ask my, why i dint just give deposit of rm1k, what if they didnt reply me or ignore me later..
i emailed them, and enquire about the package, luckily they replied in a day, which make me feel relieve.
before we went to taiwan, we had done lot of research, and found out that, they will ask us to buy their super expensive nubra, or ampoules. so we bought nubra and ampoules here in malaysia.
after reaching taiwan, as expected they ask us to buy nubra and ampoules, so we show them ours but they said they are not suitable for photoshoot. therefore, we bought another nubra and ampoules which we think if we didnt buy, they might not do the photoshoot or make up nicely. my advice is that, dont save the money, sometimes, is their money to earn, unless u ask them to suggest which type of nubra or ampoules to use, then only you buy it first before going to taiwan.
i think i am really satisfy with their service, because they managed to finish the album in JUST one day after we selected and confirmed with the photo edit. although, i think the photographer is overly hard sell to ask us to add more pictures, which in the end we add 10 more pictures with additional rm1k, but i am really satisfy with the photographer skill and thx to the super expert make up artist (iris) who just charged us rm500 for the entire day following us from 6am to 8pm, doing 5 different theme of make ups and hair styles. you cant find make up artist like her in Malaysia.
I highly recommend Judy Wedding Taiwan. we were so happy we can bring our photo album, 30 inch photo with frame, 30 photo sister card, meniature paris wheel table photos, and the hard copies. we thought it might take few months to get them ready and i'd asked many photo companies, none of them can do this express service. besides, i will feel abit worry if i need to wait them to be ready and send from taiwan. the total days for the whole photoshoot and album to be ready is 3 hours choosing gown and venue, 1 day photoshooting, 2 hours choosing photo, 2 hours comfirming photo edit and final touch up, the fifth day everything is ready to collect. we even got another two days extra to go travel around taipei.

Hi all, can check this Photographer, Ansonchoi Photography. The shop in ss2. I engaged my pre-wedding shoot with him on last year. Thumb Up and we like our photos very much, even my friend who's engaging his photo shoot service with very good comments.

Lucky us to engage him for our pre-wedding photographer, and get lots of compliments on the photo. 😉
(too bad he already occupied and couldn't be our actual wedding photographer!!!)

Can have a look on his FB page.

    Hope above helps. 🙂

I was really skeptical using a company I had never heard of before but we were on a very tight budget for the wedding. The pictures were very important to us so we wanted to make sure we got every penny worth and http://www.wedgo.net/ did exactly that! We chose photographer for the big day and he was AMAZING! He was prompt, professional, and SO easy to work with. Other than their great personalities, the pictures we received were more beautiful than we could've imagined. It was difficult finding one that we didn't love! We are thrilled that we used Wedgo and will recommend them to everyone!

I would say to avoid Perhapslifemoments by Kurt Ahs in Malaysia if possible. His URL is http://www.kurtahs.com/. Please see my review below.

Our wedding was May 2016, in the Tuscan hills of Italy. It has been almost a year and to this day, I still am very unhappy when I look at the photos. Prior to our wedding day, I communicated with Kurt through WhatsApp for over half a year, showing him photos I loved and even suggested an idea of having a list of photos I definitely wanted to have on my wedding day. He constantly told me to stop worrying and to trust him and his job. I really regret not being more outspoken on the day of my wedding, but what bride and groom has time to micromanage their photographer. I felt since I communicated with him an entire YEAR before the wedding, showing him examples of what I loved, he would be able to envision the day the way I have asked.

    – I wish my ceremony photos were not all far away and from the ground looking up. The angles was unflattering and the photos did not represent how the event went. I felt my friends captured better shots from their phone cameras with a more direct angle. The first kiss was shot from so far away. The photo of my parents and I walking down the aisle was slanted and from a very unflattering angle. If all the shots were not from the ground looking up, it would have probably been better. Almost EVERY photo I've looked at from his portfolio, he didn't advertise this upward angle thing, where the hell did it come from and why did it have to be his eye for the entire day?!
    – During the ceremony, I only have photos of my guests and nothing close up of the bride and groom. The photos were SO zoomed out, showing all my guests covering their faces from the sunlight and wiping their tears. Honestly, that's great, but that's not what a photographer should have focused on! Where are the shots of the two of us up-close and smiling at each other? Why don't I have a photo with my officiant, one of the more important people of the day? I should NOT need to crop my own photos so I can find what the main focus point should be.
    – The poses taken when the bride and bridesmaids were getting ready are SO awkward. What ever happened to just the girls smiling at the camera in our dresses and looking at each other and pretending to laugh? We had to stand in the awkward poses that my maid of honor felt her body shaking when Kurt took over 5 minutes to take a shot.
    – There are far more photos of the groom and groomsmen taking photos. Guys do not care about photos!! As a bride, I would have assumed the attention would have been upon myself, but I do not have real-time photos being taken of me getting ready! There isn't even a single shot of myself in my bridal gown holding my bouquet. ZERO. Why would a photographer not have a photo of a bride in her gown, alone, on her very special day?? It's not hard to remember…
    – Zero photos with my family, especially my mother and father alone.
